Vote to Shape the Future of PBThis week, we’re launching a PB process for EVERYONE. To practice what we preach, PBP invites everyone who donates to our organization to decide how part of the donations are spent. It’s our own participatory budgeting process, called PB2 – PB for PB. Last year you voted to create the new PB video, a great tool for teaching your friends about PB. This year, do we create an organizing toolkit or translate our materials? Plan a speaking tour or a celebration marking the 25th anniversary of PB? Check out the projects on this year’s ballot here. By voting in PB2 you decide how we use your donations to help PB grow. Anyone who donates (no matter the size) to PBP in 2013 is eligible to vote. If you haven’t yet donated, now’s the time to give and vote! Once you’ve made your donation, keep an eye out for an email inviting you to vote. PB Comes to Boston and St. Louis! We’re thrilled to start working with two new PB processes – in Boston and St. Louis! Over the next several months, PBP will partner with the City of Boston to launch the first Youth PB process in the US. Boston youth will develop and vote on proposals for how to spend $1 million from the city’s capital budget. To gear up for this work, we’re hiring a PB Boston Youth Organizer. The Youth Organizer will be responsible for engaging young people in the PB process, facilitating engagement, and supporting participants. This full-time contract position will last from January 2014 through early July 2014. Read the official press release here, and please share the Youth Organizer job ad with your networks! We’ve also begun providing support to PB in St. Louis. In the city’s 6th ward, Alderman Christine Ingrassia, Missourians Organizing for Reform and Empowerment (MORE), and the PBSTL team are engaging residents in deciding how to spend $100,000 in this year’s pilot process. Community members shared ideas over the past weeks, and will now start developing project for the vote. Join the PBP TeamDo you want to get more involved in PB and help the movement grow? (Deadline: December 6, 2013) Talking Transition in NYCOn November 9th, NYC started a new public dialogue on the transition to the city’s next mayor, and Participatory Budgeting in New York City kicked off the discussions. We worked with Community Voices Heard to organize a special neighborhood assembly at the Talking Transitions tent, to discuss how to scale up PBNYC. New Yorkers shared hundreds of ideas for how they would spend $100 Million of the city budget, and brainstormed how to make this vision a reality. 21 City Council Members are already lined up to do PB next year. Will Bill de Blasio help take PBNYC city-wide? |
