Do you have ideas about how your community can be improved, but aren’t sure how to make your voice heard? Ever wish you had more of a say in where your tax dollars go?

Through a new form of democracy called participatory budgeting, people in over 1,500 cities around the world are directly deciding how to spend public money. In this special community meeting, political leaders from Mexico and New York will explain how thousands of ordinary people have worked together to decide how to spend millions of tax dollars. This event will serve as the opening plenary for the Second International Conference on Participatory Budgeting in the US & Canada.

¿Tiene ideas sobre cómo mejorar su comunidad pero no sabe con quién hablar? ¿Quisiera tener más voz en cómo se usan sus impuestos?

A través de una nueva forma de democracia llamada presupuesto participativo, los residentes de más de 1.500 ciudades están decidiendo directamente la distribución de fondos públicos. En esta reunión comunitaria, líderes de México y Nueva York explicarán como miles de ciudadanos están decidiendo en forma participativa la asignación de millones de dólares de impuestos. Esta sesión constituirá el plenario inicial de la Segunda Conferencia Internacional de Presupuestos Participativos en EE.UU y Canadá.
