Shari Davis, Co-Executive Director

What year(s) did you dedicate your birthday to PB?

My 28th, 29th, and 30th birthdays. Yes, I really do believe in the transformative power of PB!

How much did you raise? What did the funds help to accomplish?

Over the three years combined, I raised over $8,000. All the funds I raised provided scholarships to young leaders to attend our international conferences.

What does participatory democracy mean to you?

Before joining PBP, I worked in government focussed on youth development in Boston for over a decade. I’ve made it my mission to ensure that young voice is valued and included as we build healthy communities that will be reflective of generations to come. Young people should no longer be thought of as FUTURE leaders because I know that our dynamic young people can lead with us TODAYif offered a platform and real support. That’s what participatory democracy means to me.

What is your most memorable birthday?

My 29th birthday. I held a community artist showcase to culminate my birthday giving challenge at a local, black owned business in Boston. Friends, family, and community attended to support local art, learn about how they can spread democracy with PB, and have a good time.

How do you like to spend your birthday?

I like to spend my birthdays with tribe that I grew up with and their children. My birthday is usually low key, but not without my favorite cake on a child’s face and laughter that only my sister and I create together.

Josh Lerner, Co-Executive Director

What year(s) did you dedicate your birthday to PB?

My 39th. This year, I’m dedicating my 40th birthday to PB.

How much did you raise? What did the funds help to accomplish?

I raised over $1,000 for my 39th birthday. This helped to fund our winning PB2 projects, which provide resources and tools to make PB better.

What does participatory democracy mean to you?

Participatory democracy is real democracy—we the people being able to make the decisions that affect our lives. It ties political decisions to the will of the people more directly than our current representative democracy ever could.

What is your most memorable birthday?

My memory is awful (too many birthdays!) so if I remember what I did last year I consider myself lucky.

How do you like to spend your birthday?

Eating new foods with old friends in beautiful places.
