PB Intro Training – Long Beach, CA – November 19

Are you working to improve your community? Are you looking for new strategies to bring more community voice to the decision-making table? Have you considered Participatory Budgeting?

Participatory Budgeting is a democratic process where community members get to directly decide how to spend public dollars. Through PB, community members brainstorm ideas for community improvement projects, develop these ideas into full proposals, and then vote on which projects will be funded and implemented.

You’re invited to attend an Introduction to Participatory Budgeting Training in Long Beach, CA and to learn more about PB in Long Beach. Learn how you can win more community control over your community dollars.

The training will take place on Saturday, November 19th from 9:30am – 3:00pmRegistration is open now, and space is limited. Participation is open to all however, priority will be given to participants from organizations connected to the California Endowment’s 14 Building Healthy Communities Program Sites. Introduction to Participatory Budgeting

Learn the history of PB in the US and North America, and experience the inner workings of neighborhood assemblies, budget delegate meetings, and voting through demo exercises. Gain a better sense of strategies and next steps for moving PB forward in your city.

Who should attend: Anyone interested in planning and advocating for PB in their community. The workshop is especially recommended for elected officials, staff, planners, and organizers looking to gain a solid foundation in PB before deciding if and how to move a process forward locally.

Sliding Scale Registration ($0-250) The full cost of the training is $250/person. Some funding is available to offset participant cost and funding will be given based on need. When you register, please enter the amount you can afford (at a per person rate) along with a brief explanation of why you need the financial support and we will review your request and reply to you to confirm your rate.

Register by October 30th. We will follow up with more details to those who register.
