Online Training: PB 101

This is a tough time to be working on engagement and democracy. People are tired of politics as usual, tired of their voices not being heard. Our democracy is not working.

At PBP, we have a solution: Share real power over real money.

Thousands of people across North America and around the world are already turning this vision into reality, taking budgets into their own hands and building civic power with participatory budgeting.

In a time of rising civic disengagement, many city leaders, schools, and organizations are using participatory budgeting — known as PB — to reconnect with the people they serve. PB is a democratic process that gives ordinary people direct control over a portion of a budget.

It empowers community members, engages them in finding solutions, and builds connections.

Leaders in more than 3,000 cities and municipalities have implemented PB, for three main reasons:

  1. It’s Effective Leadership. The process motivates broad participation and engages communities in finding solutions that respond to community needs.
  2. It’s Fair Leadership. PB engages a true cross-section of the community. More people get inspired and involved, including those who often can’t or don’t participate like youth and immigrants.
  3. It’s Visionary Leadership. By supporting their communities to become more resilient and connected, leaders who do PB build a legacy as bold and innovative.

You may be situated to launch a PB process using a budget you control or to advise others on how this process could support their engagement goals. Join us in October to learn more!
